Surf School Lanzarote was founded by Tim Jones, he was a Trainer & Assessor for the British Surfing Association in the 90s and was National Coach for Wales and a member of the GB coaching team. He helped create surfing instructor coaching systems in the UK.
Tim introduced the concept of soft surfboards for beginner lessons in the UK in 1992, an idea that later spread worldwide and the introduction of an International Lifesaving Open Ocean Award to be the mandatory accompanying award to all Surf Instructor Qualifications.
Tim lived in Famara and brought his two boys, Dan and Jamie up in the village. Naturally they were surfing from day one and have developed into talented surfers and surf coaches
They helped to create another surf school in Sri Lanka, which is aimed at intermediate and advanced surfers, as well as training surf instructors within Sri Lanka.

Sadly Tim passed away in 2022 and he is sorely missed as a father, friend and mentor to countless surfers around the world. His legacy continues however as Dan and Jamie have taken up the reins of both surf schools.
They deliver the highest levels of surf coaching, utilising the system that Tim pioneered to deliver proven results time after time.
“All aspects of safety were fully covered to a very high standard and the instructors were excellent in their monitoring and control of the group… the level of coaching was of an excellent standard incorporating innovative approaches designed to cater for the needs of individuals… Surf School Lanzarote conducts itself to the highest standards and is one of the finest surf schools within the European surfing scene.”
