Tim’s deep knowledge, honesty, and care were the foundation of a surf coaching system designed to create not just better surfers – but more confident, aware, and fulfilled people in the water. His unique method of progression-focused coaching quickly earned a reputation for being both challenging and empowering, attracting surfers from all over the world.

Tim’s legacy

Tim Jones was more than a surfer and a coach — he was a true waterman, a father, a mentor, and a visionary. For decades, Tim dedicated his life to the ocean, and to helping others connect with it through surfing in a meaningful and lasting way. From the powerful waves of Lanzarote to the long peeling points of Sri Lanka, Tim’s presence shaped communities, built futures, and inspired countless surfers to see the ocean not just as a playground, but as a place of learning, growth, and transformation.

THE SYSTEM:
A blueprint for progression

What set Tim apart wasn’t just his talent in the water, it was his gift for teaching. Tim developed a surf coaching system that focuses not only on technique but also on ocean awareness, individual progression, and mental clarity in the surf. His method gave surfers of all levels, from absolute beginners to advanced riders, the tools to build confidence, read conditions, and truly understand their own surfing.

The system goes beyond drills and instructions. It’s about unlocking potential, removing fear, and building trust between surfer and sea. Every session was a masterclass in connection, to the ocean, to one’s self, and to the craft of surfing.

That same system is now in the hands of his sons and a trusted team, refined and evolving, yet always rooted in Tim’s original vision.

A Father, a surfer, a guide

To his family, Tim was everything. As a father, he raised his children in and around the sea, passing on not just his skills but his passion, discipline, and love for nature. For his students, he was more than a coach – he was a guide, a motivator, and often, a lifelong friend. For his community, he was an incredibly focused mentor – always teaching, always learning, always giving.

Continuing the Journey

Today, Surf School Lanzarote and Surf School Sri Lanka continue with the same energy and ethos Tim brought to every session. His sons Daniel and Jamie, raised in the water and trained under Tim’s guidance, now lead the school with the same passion, structure, and humility that defined Tim’s life. The legacy is not just remembered – it’s lived every day in every class, with every student who finds their way with us.

The school remains a place of growth, fun, and learning, where each surfer can become part of something much bigger than a single wave.
